91 – Fill the Frame

Welcome to another Photo Challenge!

Try to fill up as much of the frame as possible with your subject. Taking a portrait you may need to get closer than you would normally and for nature shots larger subjects would be a good choice. The filled frame must be from the photograph not zooming in while processing the shot.

Challenge set by Donna Williamson
Submission Deadline: Tuesday June 30, 2015
Voting Deadline: Wednesday July 8, 2015

For some reason, Donna, I’m finding my energy level and motivation completely gone. I’m trying to light a fire under my ass, I really am!ReplyCancel

Kathy, even if you miss the deadline, send me the pics anyway. I’ll add them in so that people can see them. Worst case is you miss out on a few peoples votes.ReplyCancel

    Good submissions.
Lisa you really nailed the subject matter. You submitted great photos.
    1. Focused on Focus – excellent photo which really fills the frame
    2. So Succulent – again great photo
    3. Fat Nose – Jonathan good interpretation of the subject. I like your reflection in the shiny nose!
Honorable mention – 10 Little Piggies – Jeannie what a great pictureReplyCancel

I really had fun playing with this theme, and it looks like everyone else did, too.

    My votes:

#1…Baby Blue Eyes. Jeannie, your portrait photography has been improving by leaps and bounds, building on your considerable natural talent for it. I love this photo, and although I *love* ’10 Little Piggies’, too, I think that this particular photo expresses the theme better.

#2…Old Lady. Another great photo, Jeannie!

#3…Contemplating UofDG. Great face, great embodiment of the theme. Well done, Donna.

I also liked ‘Fat Nose’ — what a cool shot! — but didn’t think it was quite fill-the-frame enough for a vote.

Now, where oh where was Glenn in this round???

PS…Thanks for the thumbs-ups, Donna! You said fill the frame, so I filled the frame. :o)ReplyCancel

Interesting interpretations of this theme I thought! Like anything else, filling the frame is somewhat subjective for each of us. For myself, my immediate thoughts on the subject were that the main subject of the photograph would take up the most real estate of the shot and what remained outside of the main subject would not contain unnecessary “clutter” that was distracting to that main subject.

    1. Happy Canada Day – Kathy, I love the compositions and crispness of this photo. The depth of field is very well done. Very nice!
    2. Fat Nose – Jonathan, nice to see you here and using your camera! I like this interpretation of the theme, and I think your image in the reflection makes the photo. Well done!
    3. Colours of Geranium – Lisa, this is a lovely macro image. The texture really comes across.ReplyCancel

I heard about this virtual camera club through a photography friend (Jeannie).
I’m really looking forward to the next monthly challenge!ReplyCancel

Even though I didn’t get my butt in gear for this challenge, I still get to vote, so here goes!

    1st – Fat Nose
Jonathan, this is an excellent first entry into our photo challenge! Welcome aboard! I’d love to see some other images from this series. If you have them posted somewhere, please comment and let us know.

    2nd – Baby Blue Eyes
Jeannie, I keep looking at your family and children pics on your blog and facebook page, and am continually impress with how far you’ve progressed. Excellent work. I’m sure the parents were happy with this one!

    3rd – Colours of Geranium
Lisa, welcome back to the challenge! I’m always drawn to your macro shots with flowers since I’ve tried this and continuously failed to get images that I’d be happy to show anyone. Getting a good composition is a lot harder than it looks. Well done.ReplyCancel

Sorry for being late, I was trying to get in touch with Jonathan who was in the lead on points with “Fat Nose”. Unfortunately, you can’t win if you don’t vote. It says so right there in the rules. Next in line at this point is Jeannie, with “Baby Blue Eyes”.

Given how late I’ve been on posting new challenges, Jeannie and I are going to go ahead and post three challenges for you, due July 31, Aug 15 & 31.
Have fun! And please invite some new (& old) friends to participate!ReplyCancel

Thanks for the votes, and glad I could finally participate! I will try to keep up with the challenges, and I will definitely remember to vote! HahaReplyCancel
