Challenge 76 – Near and Far

Welcome to another round of Photo Challenge!

Challenge set by Jeannie Gane
Submission Deadline: Sunday June 15, 2014
Voting Deadline: Thursday July 3, 2014
Winning Image: After the Rain – Jeannie Gane

Special Instructions

This challenge requires two images for each entry. The first must be contained in the second. An example would be a macro shot and then a zoom out to should the larger field of view. It’ll take some planning to ensure you are getting good composition in both images. Jeannie

When submitting your images, send both the near and far in a single email please! And I’d like your chosen naming to reflect that these are linked. Use the same name with a 1 and 2 appended. If you are submitting two or three entries, then you would still send separate emails per entry. Glenn

This challenge was a lot more challenging than I originally thought it would be.

    1. Ninja – Jacci. great compositions!
    2. After the Rain – Jeannie. Beautiful work.ReplyCancel

    1. Chopper – Lorne, love these shots. Great work getting these pics so sharp but representing the movement of the helicopter blades! Nicely done!
    2. Ninja – Jacci, I found the the “far” pic a little dark but I LOVED the angle and the perspective of the pic. Kept going back to look some more. Great Job!
    3. Blues – Lovely Kate! These make my mouth water every time I look at the pictures. Well done.

I also found this a difficult challenge and I picked it! 🙂ReplyCancel

Actually, Lorne, I think you are supposed to vote for the pair, not the individual photos. Please let us know if this changes your vote or if we should assume that you mean the pair.ReplyCancel

I checked with Lorne and he says to go with the pair! Thanks!ReplyCancel

    1st – Polish Transport
While I might have chosen something else if I was picking my favourite image in this gallery, I thought this was one of the best pairings of the bunch with two very strong images. Well done, Jeannie.

    2nd – Texas Longhorn
Apart from the Herd is, in my opinion, one of the better single images in this gallery. I was not as drawn to In the Herd, mostly for composition reasons.

    3rd – Football Girl
I felt that in both of these images the subject was too dark against that bright background, and perhaps would benefit from some more selective editing to draw the eye to the the subjects face. That said, the compositions were well executed and fit the theme very well.

I also liked After the Rain and Ninja a lot and gave serious consideration to ranking either of them in the top three.ReplyCancel

As it currently sits we have a tie between numerous entries, and I’d like to leave this open for another day or two to get more votes. Lisa B has still not voted. This may also be an opportunity for some of our regular readers (Marie?) to comment and break the tie!ReplyCancel

    1. Blues
    2. After the Rain
    3. ChopperReplyCancel

  • GlennJuly 6, 2014 - 7:21 AM

Jacci’s votes have broken the tie, so the win this time out goes to Jeannie with After the Rain. Congrats! Please send me a new theme as soon as possible.ReplyCancel
